Dishonored, Disappointment or Worth the Wait?

Dishonored was one of the most anticipated videogame releases of the fall. Now that it is on the market, millions of gamers will get the chance to see if the game lives up to the hype.
Set in the industrial whaling city of Dunwall, an odd mixture of strange, unearthly forces mingles with the steampunk like technology to create a shadowy world of intrigue. You play the bodyguard of a slain princess whose murder has been framed on you. Now on the run from the law, you have been transformed into a feared assassin wearing an odd, disturbing mask that has helped make you famous.
With the city of Dunwall plagued by a corrupt government, sickness and despair, the dark forces have emerged and bestowed upon you supernatural abilities, but for a price. The life you once knew is now gone and you roam the streets searching for the truth behind the assassination of the princess to punish those who are guilty.
Dishonored is a first person videogame filled with excellent graphics, smooth gameplay and a nice, well thought out theme. Instead of the usual shoot-em-up, you play an actual character with motivations that go beyond killing everyone is sight. In fact, the gameplay in Dishonored actually reacts well to the strategy that you choose. You can decide to use the shadows and move silently through the different levels or power your way through, hacking and slashing to your heart’s content.
The abilities, treasures and gadgets you find will help shape your strategy as well, letting you change your course of action quickly. This lets you improvise on the spot if needed and use innovative techniques to make your way through the city of Dunwall. You’ll find that Dishonored plays differently with each strategy that you choose which enhances its replay value.
Plus, the game has some interesting options such as teleporting to new locations, taking over another creature and even stopping time. The combination of supernatural abilities with the standard hack and slash gameplay is rather refreshing and lets you make interesting choices for a unique game experience. Combine this with the steampunk vision of the city and you have a fully fledged fantasy adventure with the meat of a real first person combat game.
Dishonored is still a new release, so the full range of cheats and tips have not fully been discovered. Having said that, one good strategy is to uncover blueprint upgrade which can be used to upgrade gadgets so when you find one, take it to Piero and you can then purchase the upgrade. For example, in Bonded Galvani Weave the blueprint for Upgraded Armor can be found inside a safe located in the workshop in the backyard behind the Overseer’s mansion. You can find the key to the safe on the workbench.
Overall, Dishonored is certainly worthy of the hype as the supernatural is combined with the standard first person gameplay to create a unique, enjoyable experience. This is defiantly for the more mature gamer, but it’s well worth the purchase price for those looking at a different take on the standard first person action game.
